The goal of MAS is to encourage, empower and inspire. When people face ill-health or medical events in life unexpectedly it comes as a shock. Not only are people faced with the struggle to navigate their medical issues, but there is also the impact on mental health and self-identity. Suddenly the life you had mapped out before you has been interrupted. That loss of control, fear of unknown and isolation can be overwhelming at times. You need to find a strength that you don't always feel you have. Hearing from people who have walked that walk before you can install hope and provide a promise of strength.
We are looking for volunteers to share their story. You don't need to be artistic, a writer. We do all that. Initially we will be in touch to confirm you are happy to take part and which elements you want to take part in (the more the better!). First names only will be shared, and no location or identifiable details. We are aiming to interview as many of the 100 volunteers as time allows, ideally in person or remotely if needed. These interviews will be cut to be shared in a series of short videos to share online on social media across different platforms including a podcast. These interviews will be supported by medical education videos by doctor Liz Murray to educate others on the facts surrounding to conditions covered. These will be sensitively done and again with the aim of emphasising the strength and resilience of humans.
Artists will be selected carefully to be part of this project. Each story from the 100 voices will be given to an artist, who will then use that story to inspire a piece of art work (photography, abstract, conceptual, sculpture...) These artworks will again be shared across all platforms as the project progresses. The aim is that at the end of the project we will have gathered funding to provide an exhibition fund raising event. Artworks will be exhibited and available to buy, with 20% of sales going to charities that mirror the health issues covered. A signed print will be provided to the volunteer as a thank you.
Artwork produced will be the property (intellectual and copyright and physical) of the artist. Volunteers agreeing to have artwork produced inspired by their story agree to this and have no legal ownership of the artwork or sales thereof. A complimentary print produced by the artist and given to the volunteer as a thank you on successful completion of the project is encouraged as thank you gift. Volunteers acknowledge that the project aims to provide an educational, entertainment artistic platform to empower and educate and aims to support emerging artists. No financial reward will be offered, as any fundraising done is to support the project, the fund raising event running costs and then distributed between registered charities. Sales from the book that is an aim of the project will be used to cover the production costs, with a proportion of profits going to the charities outlined. MAS aims to deliver the vision outlined, but retains the right to alter, change or cancel any aspect should circumstances require. Volunteers acknowledge they have no intellectual rights (or other) to the book or any production material in this project.
Upon volunteering, prior to the initial interview volunteers will sign an agreement to say they are happy to participate with the above understanding of terms, and will sign to confirm what elements of the project they are happy to be involved with. This is a voluntary participation project. Volunteers are not expected to contribute financially to the project and have no ownership of the project as a whole or any part of.
